I wish I were greeting you all under happier circumstances, but I have a good friend named Scott Payne whose father Charlie is at this moment in the intensive care unit at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, New York. They have Charlie breathing on a ventilator; he's not able to speak on his own just yet, but he does recognize both friends and family. I wanna ask you all to keep the Payne family --- Scott, his brother Michael, and their mother Debbie in your prayers this week; they could certainly use a whole lot of them.

As for me, I'll be offline for at least a day or two until I can properly speak to you again. I'll still be in touch, though. Thanks!

Thanks, Santa. The reason I was offline for awhile until I was properly able to speak here was that there were certain issues regarding the upkeep of my house which required my attention. Happily, those issues have been properly resolved; so now, I can introduce myself to you as I would wish to do.

Anyway, I'm Santa Richard, legendary "Elf Without Jingles in a savage land," said savage land being New York City. As I write this, I'm considering volunteering my duties to two local day care centers here; I may have to respond one or both of them, and/or do a follow-up call on Monday. Still, the Payne family remains on my mind, as I posted here; right now, Charlie, Scott's father, remains on a ventilator. If during the coming weekend I hear from Scott about his dad, I'll let you know. Thanks.

Thanks again, Santa --- but, to clarify, it's Charlie, Scott's father, and not Scott himself, who is on the hospital ventilator at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady. Just wanted to correct the e-mail you posted there.

Meanwhile, how's that journey of yours going, the one where you're getting ready to go cross-country to raise funds for diabetes research? I'd sure like to hear more about it!
